Made of Mountains

This artwork was created on a canvas that I ordered a couple years ago. Turns out the canvas was the wrong texture (gsm and smoothness for my marking pens). I kept it in storage and brought it out when I was having a creative block to unwind so it became like a scribble drawing pad, a big one too.

The more special part of this art is the infusion of the clay pigment from Mount Hagen that I collected years ago, mixed with acrylic paint and flow mediums to bring the pigment back to life and applied to the body of the woman. The woman is a Western Highlands woman in a tribal attire with another distinct marking on her face. The mediums used on this artwork from the marking pens, acrylic, gold leaves and graphite were leftover materials from previous projects that I was reluctant to throw out because I know they would come in use some day and as an artist, it is important to use these mediums sustainably.
